What is it?
The 'Asbestos Risk Survey Form' is a 2 sided document used to assist the surveyor to identify potential asbestos carrying materials within the installation. The form has been pre-populated with common survey questions which prompt the surveyor to recognise potential hazards.
When would you use it?
You would use the 'Asbestos Risk Survey Form' on all installation type work which requires the need for an individual survey to be carried out. It is recommended that the that the person conducting the survey use this documentation in addition to any documentation the client/customer has available e.g. local authorities normally hold asbestos information on all their properties.
Why would you use it?
You would use the 'Asbestos Risk Survey Form' as it very quickly helps the surveyor to identify potential hazards that can then be negated prior to the installation visit. Once highlighted, company procedures and any relevant 'Health and Safety' guidelines (see HSE website) can be followed e.g. if you find an electric storage heater housing an asbestos containing material, you can then determine who is best qualified to remove it and how this task will be undertaken.
It has to be said that this has been a major risk area when consulting to companies. Even with procedures in place the focus on asbestos containing materials has been found lacking. The use of this template will help surveyors to be more aware of potential exposure areas prior to works taking place and hence cost them in.
